I realize there needs to be a lot of V&V development to really sell this, but I never claimed to be able to write anything in order.
Veronica and I are closer than we were a year ago, and she's used to people asking for favors. Plus I'm desperate. Normally I make time for AA every two weeks, but with Logan clinging to sobriety I'm committed to both Mondays and Thursdays. So I pick up the phone and dial.
"Hey vivian, what's up?"
"Actually, I'm in a bit of a bind. I've got a meeting tonight and I can't get anyone to watch Morgan. It won't be all evening 7:30 to 9 at the latest."
"Sure, bring her over. Dad loves seeing her, and I don't mind."
"Thanks, you're getting me out of a real jam."
The church isn't far from the Mars place so I tell Logan I'll be a little earlier than usual. He doesn't seem to notice the change in route until we are practically there.
"Veronica is watching Morgan?" Everything about his body language is tense.
"Yeah, I'll be in and out."
I grab Morgan out of the carseat and the diper bag. Veronica opens the door, but Keith grabs the baby. She takes the bag and a soon as her dad dissapears her look turns cold. Logan inthe front seta of my car. Of course. I refuse to turn, to acknowlege anything.
"Thanks a lot" I smile big. "I'll be back by nine."
"O take your time," she says. "We wouldn't mind keeping her overnight."
"Nine." I say with another smile and walk back to the car.
